• Eligibility

First of all, we need to check you're eligible to take part.
  • The Invictus Games are open to wounded, injured and sick service personnel (WIS), both serving and veteran, from all branches of the regular or reserve Armed Forces in the UK who have become wounded, injured or sick during or as a direct consequence of their service in a manner which has significantly changed their lives.

  • It is very unlikely you will be accepted to particpate again. You can continue completing this form, but please bear in mind that your chances are quite low.

The Invictus Games Foundation states that competitors cannot compete in more than two Invictus Games in total. This is to ensure that as many eligible wounded, injured or sick service personnel as possible, both serving and veteran, should have the opportunity to compete in the Invictus Games.

Applications for an individual to compete in a third Invictus Games will be considered by the IGF on a case-by-case basis if there is a specific recovery need of a competitor.

  • Suitability for the Games

This section checks whether the Invictus Games will help you on your recovery journey. Your answers won't stop you applying, but we do want you to think about why you really want to take part, and whether you are prepared.
  • Please think about this...

  • That's good. The focus is on recovery.

  • Competitors for Team UK are selected based on their individual recovery need and the benefit the Invictus Games will have on their recovery journey. The emphasis is on individual recovery, not medalling. Sport performance and ability is not considered during the selection process.

  • That's great!

  • Please think about this...

  • For Veterans hoping to be considered for selection for Team UK, it is a requirement that you attend a five day residential course at the Battle Back Centre to assist us and you in identifying if this is the right recovery pathway for you.

This applies even if you have previously attended a Battle Back Course.

The RBL will hold 6 training camps before the team is selected for the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027. In order to be eligible for selection for Team UK you must attend a minimum of 2 of these training camps. You can attend all of the training camps if you wish.

  • Brilliant!

  • You should be aware that...

  • Being part of this programme is a significant commitment so it is important you consider the time you will need to spend away from home and ensure you have the full support and understanding of your nearest and dearest. If you are selected to be part of Team UK at Birmingham 2027 you will be required to attend multiple training camps and team events and, will need to be available to attend the Invictus Games from the 9th-18th July 2027.

Once the team is selected the RBL run’s a full Friends and Family programme which includes virtual activities/workshops and in person events. In addition, each Competitor can invite 2 Friends & Family to attend the Invictus Games.

  • That's good to know.

  • You need to be aware that....

  • The RBL will arrange accommodation, which includes bed and breakfast. Please be aware that some camps may require you to cover the cost of additional meals over the weekend.

You will also be responsible for funding all travel expenses to and from the camps and the Multi Activity Course.

Financial support may be available to Veterans based on individual need and assessed on a case-by-case basis. Eligibility and options can be discussed with your case worker once assigned.

  • That's great!

  • This is important. Please read this and consider the implications for you.

  • The 5-day residential course at the Battle Back Centre will involve a variety of different sporting activities, where you will be challenged by choice in a safe and inclusive environment with likeminded individuals. You will have an opportunity to try new sports and to explore some tools to reset your growth mindset.

Weekend training camps are great fun but can be physically demanding if you haven't done any sporting activity for years. These camps will give you the opportunity to try all of the Invictus Games sports. All activity is person centred, and you can choose how many sports you want to participate in.

  • Your answers above indicate you may have some reservations. You should think carefully about the passages highlighted in amber before continuing to the full application.

  • If you are still serving...

You will need to apply via the MoD.
  • In order to move into the initial phase of the Team UK Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 programme you must first complete an MOD application form.

Serving personnel who are not classified as WIS but who are permanently downgraded may still be considered.

You can express your interest in being considered, and be contacted when applications open, complete the serving personnel expression of interest form.

  • It seems you are not eligible

  • The Invictus Games are open to wounded, injured and sick service personnel (WIS), both serving and veteran, from all branches of the regular or reserve Armed Forces of the participating nations who have become wounded, injured or sick during or as a direct consequence of their service in a manner which has significantly changed their lives.
